On our first full day in Berlin we rented bikes so we could cruise around town. So it is official, Matt is trying to kill me because on top of the 10 miles we walked that day, we easily doubled that on bike (and the rental bikes were terribly uncomfortable).

First we made our way to the east side gallery which is the longest remaining stretch of the Berlin Wall that has been turned into an art gallery/place for people to graffiti. There is some impressive artwork in some parts, but a lot of it is graffiti covered (which is still pretty amazing), and people write their names and messages all over the wall in Sharpie. While obviously a touristy spot, it was crazy to see such a historical site in the middle of town on a normal street. Check out the gallery below and our video of the wall- we’re officially GoPro professionals.
Next we made our way to Checkpoint Charlie (Checkpoint Charlie was the name given by the Western Allies to the best-known Berlin Wall crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin, during the Cold War). It’s definitely a tourist trap, but there are some exhibits and museums in the area.

After Checkpoint Charlie, we cruised over to the Topography of Terror museum.
After that long day, we spent some time cruising through the Tiergarten, basically Berlin’s central park. It’s gorgeous.
Of course we ended our day with food, after clocking about 20 miles. More to come on Berlin tomorrow! Right now we’re off to rent a car to drive to Dresden- wish us luck, with me navigating I’m hoping I come out of this drive still married…
