On to Abcoude! Well, we didn’t actually stay in Abcoude, but I can’t even really spell the name of the place we did stay (a very small town that might rhyme with winkledick or something) and Abcoude was just a few minutes drive and the main real city, so we’ll call it that. We fled the terrible place in Utrecht, described in the last post, for Abcoude which is a farming community just outside of Amsterdam, and we’re so glad we did. The airbnb we ended up at was adorable:

It was almost like a mobile home park but on these little canals that led into the lake that was nearby. We were pretty excited to be in a “house” again, with a full kitchen and everything, and with no real agenda while we were there we took advantage of “playing house” (ie. Matt cooking for me and me drinking lots of wine 😉

Each day we would head into town to get fresh bread and pastries (and wine obvi), and I would usually check out the little shops while Matt drank at this awesome little bar.
It was about a mile walk to the lake which was really pretty. Little lake houses dotted the perimeter of the lake, and they had beach areas that you could swim in and hang out at.
Being so used to the desert, we were always in awe of the lushness of Holland, flowers everywhere (and bees and spiders).

My favorite part about Abcoude is that there were sheep and cattle farms surrounding it, so I got to watch the animals as we drove around.
We had a really great time just “living” here and not having to be tourists. I think Matt was all to excited to go grocery shopping, and even got to BBQ a few nights.
As we were packing up and sorting the various currency that we had accumulated, we couldn’t help but capture this Jason Bourne moment:
From Abcoude we headed back to Amsterdam and flew to Greece, so I will share Corfu next!
