Zurich

I’m so far behind!  Ugh!  It’s been a hectic couple days (more on that later) so hopefully I’ll get on track now.  So on to Zurich!

From Dachau we continued onto Zurich where we stayed for just one night as we were moving on to a more remote area from there.  We arrived around dinner time so we headed out to the downtown area to see the city and get some food.  On our way we started to hear what we first thought was gunshots, but then realized were fireworks.  When we got to downtown people were setting them off in the big public square.  And by people I mean young children setting off pretty serious fireworks in a public area by themselves.  Ya.  We were a bit taken a back and frankly turned off because they were so loud and disrupting everything (yes we’re old crotchety Americans).  Well, when we got back to the hotel we had to google if something was going on in the town for it to be ok for so many serious fireworks to be going off unofficially. We felt like idiots when we realized it was Swiss National Day, customarily celebrated by big fireworks displays.  Ha. What are the odds?!?  So at least kids weren’t about to blow their hands off on a regular Saturday night.  Here is some of Zurich:

The next day we had to head on to our next destination, but first we walked around the town a little more and had some Swiss fondue!  Soooo goood.

I think we managed to make the most out of being there for less than 24 hours, bu it really started to confirm our feelings that we preferred being in smaller towns  We were pretty excited to head to our next stop in Switzerland and the anticipation was definitely justified, probably our favorite place so far.  More Switzerland to come!
