As you know, we’ve been flying by the seat of our pants on this trip, so stumbling into Auvernier was all kinds of luck. When we started looking for a place in Switzerland, we searched airbnb in our price range in pretty much the entire country, and fell in love with the main picture of the place we chose. Basically this:
Time lapse of sunrise from our window:
We didn’t really know anything about the area besides the fact that there was a lake, but we had a car and GPS so we were in. We were not disappointed. The older couple that owned the house were so sweet, she even left us some of her home made marmalade that I couldn’t get enough of. The whole experience was amazing. The description had mentioned something about a winery near by, but as we drove into the town we realized it, and the surrounding small towns around the lake, are Swiss wine country. I was happy.
Auvernier also has the friendliest kitties 🙂
After city hopping through Germany and seeing all the sites, the slowed pace here was welcome. We pretty much ate bread, cheese, and salami and enjoyed the view wherever we were.
I’ve been harassing Matt for about a decade to take me on a picnic, and it finally happened, and did not disappoint:
The town itself is out of a story book. I couldn’t help taking pictures of all the adorable streets and buildings:

We also discovered that Switzerland had yet a different type of plug, we do not advise attempting the picture below:

The second night we were there we went to dinner at a Thai place that was ok, but the view was amazing:

On our last day, we woke up early and went and jumped in the lake, which was pretty freezing. It was definitely worth it though, so refreshing.

One last picture in our amazing window before we left:
From Auvernier we had to head to Basel to catch our flight to Amsterdam, and the saddest thing ever happened, we had to turn in our rental car 😦 .

Sometimes the best places happen by accident! We were so glad to discover Auvernier, we hope to go back some day (if Matt is allowed back in the country; I forgot to mention in the lat post that Matt got a photo radar ticket upon entering Switzerland. He will tell you a story about how we were coming straight from the autobahn and there were no speed limits posted, so they were just trying to capitalize on people in our very situation, but I think he was just enjoying flying on the autobahn so much and had become used to it 😉 , so we’ll see how that plays out). We’re currently in Holland, heading to Corfu in the morning, so who knows what wifi will be like there so it might be awhile before I share our days in Holland. More later!

Those were great pictures! What luck to find such a charming town and great wine to boot! And tell Matt not to worry, my picture is on photo radar in all kinds of states I am sure! Love you guys!

You’ll find a random charge from the rental car company in your inbox. It happened to me too-not on the autobahn, but a parking ticket.

Yeah that’s what we read, a processing fee for them giving the authorities your info I guess? But I also read stories of Swiss police sending tickets to the U.S. once Rhett have your info so we’ll see.
